Med-Peds residents at a crab feast.

While many aspects of residency training are rewarding, we recognize that residency can be a difficult and stressful time for most residents. The Med-Peds program, in conjunction with the Internal Medicine and Pediatrics programs, is committed to promoting resident wellness and resilience. The wellness curriculum includes dedicated conferences, wellness focused retreats, mandatory rest breaks during 28-hour ICU calls, and flexible wellness days that residents can utilize on both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics rotations.

We recognize that you cannot function well in the hospital if you are not physically and mentally healthy. As interns, we schedule our residents for visits to Employee Assistance for a wellness check, as well as a primary care physician for a checkup so they are connected to care throughout their time in Baltimore.

The University of Maryland Medical Center is committed to the health and wellness of our residents. The are many hospital-wide wellness initiatives and services viewable on the hospital's wellness resource page. Many of our core Med-Peds faculty have a special interest in trainee wellness and serve as hospital-wide wellness champions.
