Rehabilitation intervention after limb loss is crucial to provide comprehensive care focused on developing the skills needed to learn how to mobilize and attain the highest functional level possible. Physical therapy will address strength, flexibility, balance training, gait training, improving activity tolerance, pre-prosthetic and prosthetic training.

Treatment options include progressive prosthetic training tailored to individual needs for function, development of exercise programs, functional balance and coordination training, techniques to treat phantom pains, manual therapy and modalities. The physical therapist along with a physician and prosthetist will work together to develop a rehabilitation program to meet individual needs.
