To promote good health for people of all ages, UM BWMC’s Community Outreach Department is offering a broad variety of in-person exercise classes to UM BWMC team members and the local community.
Classes begin in April 2022. They will be held in the Community Wellness Center in the Outpatient Care Center (255 Hospital Drive, Glen Burnie, MD 21061). Pre-registration is required as spots are limited. Face masks will be required.

Prenatal Yoga (Tuesdays, 5:15-6:15 pm)
Pregnancy brings challenges, including many structural and hormonal changes. In this class, we will address those challenges and meet them with guided breathwork and poses that encourage and address prenatal physiology. You will be led through a sequence of yoga postures and mediation that is suitable for all trimesters.
Zumba (Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm)
Come join the dance party! Have fun with this high energy music class that incorporates fast and slow rhythms and interval training to get your heart rate up. This class combines all elements of fitness-cardio, strength building, flexibility and balance to boost your energy.
Level 1 Vinyasa (Wednesdays, 5-6 pm)
Recommended props: 1 blanket, 1-2 blocks
This Level 1 Vinyasa class involves standing, sitting, kneeling and lying flat in coordination with specific yoga asanas (poses) designed to bring together the body, mind and spirit. It will help you to gain a better understanding and awareness of your inner strength. This is a refreshing, encouraging and fun class!
Base Team Training (Thursdays, 10-11 am)
Get energized in this class by combining team building games with a full-body workout. This classic team collaboration exercise will challenge you for a calorie crushing cardio workout. Beginners and health fanatics will be inspired by fun! Exercises will be modified to accommodate all skill levels.
HIIT (Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 pm)
Kick your workout routine up a notch! Get energized and strong with this cardio-blasting, core-conditioning, body toning experience where fitness meets fun. Options available for low intensity (LIIT) and high intensity (HIIT) movements.
Cardio Class (Fridays, 9:30-10:30 am)
Let's get moving and have fun with this musically-driven class filled with a fusion of traditional cardio exercises, cardio blasts and dance moves. Close out the class with a core-crushing segment that is sure to build your endurance. Appropriate for all fitness levels.
Kids Yoga (Saturdays, 9-9:30 am)
Yoga for children settles and manages behaviors, encourages relaxation and previews yoga philosophy. This half-hour class includes mindful breathing and classic yoga postures with fun songs and movements that increase strength and independence.
Yoga for Stroke Patients
Yoga can be beneficial to continued recovery for stroke survivors. It can increase strength and flexibility, improve balance, coordination, and posture, improve breathing and the cardiovascular system, increase bone strength, improve brain function, decrease stress and lower blood pressure. This class is recommended for any stroke survivor who has completed rehabilitation, regardless of level of ability. Physician consent is required and participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat.
