UM SJMC welcomes more than 2,000 babies each year in our cozy, family-centered birthing center. As one of the area's leading birthplaces, we provide advanced obstetrics services in a warm, caring environment recognized for our stellar patient safety ratings and comprehensive care.
In addition to our OBGYN doctors, we have the largest number of certified nurse-midwives of any hospital in the metropolitan area, providing expectant moms with a wide range of choices for their birthing experience.

In our Mother-Baby Unit, all rooms are private, and there is a daybed for your partner so your family can begin bonding right away.

First-Time Moms
To make the most of your birth experience, it is important that you know your options. Our childbirth classes are here to help you do just that — prepare for a birth day that's just right for you and baby.
While you recover, our nurses and lactation consultants are here to answer your questions and provide information and sound advice as you prepare to begin caring for your new little one.
And the support doesn't stop after you go home. Our team offers support groups for new moms, where you can get answers to your questions, stay connected and make new friends!
High-Risk Pregnancy
At our Perinatal Center, our maternal-fetal health specialists provide close consultation and comprehensive care for mothers with high-risk pregnancies.
We care for moms with everything from severe lupus and renal transplants to diabetes and heart disease. And, of course, we provide the specialized care mothers carrying twins and multiples need.
Our on-site, 7,200-square-foot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides high level treatment for babies who need advanced, specialized care.
