DAISY AT UM Shore Regional Health

Any UM Shore Regional Health or UM Shore Medical Group nurse who has made a special connection with a patient or family can be nominated for the DAISY Award.
UM Shore DAISY Committee members meet monthly to choose an honoree, who will receive a special treat and prizes.
About the DAISY Award
The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses honors the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), an auto-immune disease. His family, profoundly impressed by the clinical skills and compassion of the nurses who cared for Patrick, created this international award to show gratitude for nurses everywhere.
Anyone can nominate a UM Shore Regional Health nurse for the DAISY Award, including patients, families, and fellow nurses and health care providers. Complete the nomination form online at or pick up a paper copy of the form at the nurses’ stations.

Monthly UM Shore DAISY Winner
Marie Queh, RN (May 2024 DAISY Honoree)
Congratulations to May’s DAISY nurse – Marie Queh, RN, who works in Acute Care at UM Shore Medical Center at Chestertown. Queh was nominated by a patient's family for the exceptional care they received in Acute Care-Chestertown.
The nomination read:
“Marie was our mother’s nurse for the night shift. Marie was so compassionate and treated us all like we were her family. She kept us updated with her care and addressed our concerns. When the hospital called us to say our mother had taken a turn for the worse, and we came in to spend our last hours with our beloved mother, Marie was there taking care of mom and us. She moved us to a bigger room so that our large family could be with our mom and got us a comfort cart, full of snacks and drinks, from the cafeteria. We were playing some of our mom's favorite hymns for her to help ease her pain. Marie, with her sweet voice, sang lightly with us. When Marie left that morning, she came in and told us goodbye and told our mom goodbye and that it was a pleasure to take care of her. All the nurses were great with us, but Marie is a special nurse and individual. We also found out through another nurse that Marie and her family take care of many of the medical needs of the people in Marie’s hometown in West Africa. Marie is a great asset to the acute care unit, as well as the hospital. This is why our family feels she deserves this award!”
As part of winning the DAISY award, Queh will be internationally recognized on the DAISY website. She also received a certificate, a DAISY pin and a “Healer’s Touch” statue. As tradition holds, Queh and her team were also treated to cinnamon rolls.
