Message from UMMC's Chief Nursing Officer

Nurses at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) practice in an environment that promotes a psychology of excellence. This allows each nurse to practice at maximal scope while empowering nursing autonomy. Our nurses have a strong voice as evidenced by a robust shared governance model and participative decision-making philosophy that values the engagement of all nurses.
The University of Maryland Medical Center Downtown Campus has been recognized as a Magnet-designated hospital three times and for the first time in 2023, both the Downtown Campus and Midtown Campus will be seeking one Magnet designation as the University of Maryland Medical Center.
In addition, UMMC has a strong history in investing in the professional development of all nurses through a mature professional advancement model that brings education and leadership development from the novice to expert nurse.
Our dynamic and collaborative partnership with the University of Maryland School of Nursing creates a powerful environment in which to practice research, performance improvement and evidence- based practice. Inter-professional learning is a priority through our partnership with University of Maryland, Baltimore and our active commitment to training and simulation.
As an anchor institution in west Baltimore, our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is evident in our workforce and patient population that we serve. Our relentless passion for quality, safety, the patient experience and employee satisfaction creates an environment that allows the professional nurse to thrive.
