UMMC Doctors Perform Successful Heart and Double Lung Transplant

Jose Fernandez, Sr. spent months trying to figure out what was wrong with his heart.  Outside doctors gave him prescription after prescription, but nothing ever helped. After he was accurately diagnosed at UMMC, Jose awaited a donor heart for a transplant.  Then, he was diagnosed with idiopathic lung fibrosis, and spent 159 days straight in the hospital waiting for a heart and double lung transplant. Eventually he got his wish.
