University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health Bariatric (Weight Loss) Surgery Program provides pre- and post-surgery support as you make this lifestyle change.

Most of our patients recover from surgery within three-months and continue to lose weight after this time period.

The biggest hurdle for most patients is learning how to eat and drink slowly. This eating process can take at least two weeks to master which is why patients are encouraged to begin practicing this prior to surgery. Our bariatric specialists will work with you on this eating approach so that you are successful after surgery.

Patients are out of bed and walking around on the day of surgery and are generally discharged the next day.
