The emergency department at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center always stands ready to provide the care you need in a safe and comfortable environment. As a Level II Trauma Center, we treat patients 24/7, year-round for many serious illnesses and injuries.

The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) recognizes us as a primary stroke center for our fast and optimal stroke care. MIEMSS also recognizes us as a Designated Cardiac Interventional Center for our ability to quickly and effectively treat emergency heart conditions. We are also UM Capital Region Health's main emergency treatment site for sexual assault victims.

As standalone facilities, the emergency departments at UM Bowie Health Center and UM Laurel Medical Center arrange patient transfers to our facility when an inpatient admission or a higher level of care is needed.

What to Expect at the ER: Our priority is to treat each person in our emergency rooms as fully, safely and quickly as possible. We see patients based on how serious their conditions are. Patients are not seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more about what to expect at the ER.
