Volunteer Requirements
The following are required to become a UM Capital Region Health volunteer and all steps must be completed.
- Minimum age for students to volunteer is 16 years of age or older.
- Required to commit 100 hours within a 12-month period and 4 hours per shift.
- Attend a volunteer orientation/interview with the volunteer services coordinator.
- Please bring a copy of acceptable documents to orientation (ex., driver's license, student ID, passport, etc.); a list will be sent to your email.
- Completion of all online volunteer training competencies (UMMS U).
- A background check will be requested.
Onboarding Obligations
- Attend a volunteer orientation/interview with the volunteer services coordinator.
- Must receive immunization clearance from Employee Health. Other immunizations may be required (ex, COVID-19 vaccination or other screenings).
From start to finish, the process usually takes about one month to complete.

Get Involved
Applicants are considered based on the assessed needs of hospital departments, skills and interests of the volunteer, and an applicant's ability to demonstrate a personal commitment to the volunteer program.
