Interpreter Services

UMMS provides interpretation and translation services for patients and visitors whose primary language is not English as well as people who are hearing or sight impaired.

Interpreter Services provides free medical interpretation to patients of the Medical Center and clinics on 16 S. Eutaw Street, 701 W. Pratt Street, and 36 W. Paca Street.

Our Services Include

Language Interpretation and Translation

• Telephonic Interpretation with access to more than 170 languages, accessible 24/7. A blue, dual-handset phone will be placed in your room during your admission for communication with your provider. Your provider is also able to connect with an interpreter from any phone.
• Staff Spanish Interpreters available from 7 am to 6:30 pm

Hearing or Sight-Impaired Interpretation

• Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) is available for sign and spoken language interpretation
• TTY (text telephone equipment) is available for hearing impaired
• Certified American Sign Language interpreter available from 7 am to 3:30 pm
