The University of Maryland offers accredited fellowship programs in Neurocritical Care, Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology, and Complex Spine Surgery.

Neurocritical Care

The University of Maryland Department of Neurology offers a UCNS-accredited fellowship in Neurocritical Care. Neurosurgery residents are eligible for this program. The Neurocritical Care Fellow trains in diagnosing and managing the full spectrum of acute neurological disease.

Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology

The Department of Neurosurgery has a strong relationship with the Division of Interventional Neuroradiology. Neurosurgery residents rotate with this team early in residency and are eligible for this comprehensive one-year fellowship. The program prepares fellows with the latest in endovascular technology and therapy, from aneurysm embolization to mechanical thrombectomy. Many alumni have taken advantage of this opportunity.

Complex Spine Surgery

Starting in academic year 2021-2022, neurosurgery residents can complete additional training in the CAST-accredited Complex Spine Surgery Fellowship with Dr. Charles Sansur. Fellows learn a wide range of neurosurgical and orthopedic approaches for degenerative, deformity, traumatic, and neoplastic disease. The program is enriched with didactic sessions and case conferences, and robust opportunities for research. Dr. Sansur’s past mentees have obtained prestigious positions and have established strong spine practices.
