UM Upper Chesapeake Health welcomes high school seniors preparing for their higher education in health care. Their options are to volunteer at the hospital or to connect with a health care provider that agrees for a student to shadow them for up to 20 hours. Shadowing and volunteering opportunities are available year-round.

Shadowing

  • Due to liability concerns, you must be at least 18 years old to shadow.
  • Shadowing is for those pursuing a health-related career and need a certain number of hours.
  • Shadow opportunities should be pre-arranged by the student with a physician or other health care provider.
  • Our Education Office can assist in your placement and schedule by contacting UMUCHStudents@umm.edu.
  • Shadowing opportunities are limited to 20 hours.

Volunteering

  • Volunteering is available for 16 to 18 year old students.
  • Hours are unlimited and students can change their area(s) of interest.
  • You can apply through the Volunteer Office, by visiting the Volunteer Process webpage or by calling 443-643-1725.
  • Your placement will be based on openings in various hospital units and your areas of interest.
  • Seniors in a Harford County high school Biomed program: Volunteer Services will process your application and connect you with the Human Resources department for placement.
