The Pollock family

Elizabeth Pollock, new mother to Reese Elizabeth, is the first one to admit she is more than a little nervous with anything related to hospitals or doctors. "I am definitely squeamish when it comes to anything medical," she says with a teasing smile, looking at her husband, Jeremy, a cardiologist at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center. Even Jeremy admits that being a physician didn't prepare him for the emotional experience of witnessing his daughter's birth on March 13, 2016. "More than once I had to sit down," he laughs.

The high school sweethearts, who wed in June 2014, never considered anywhere else but UM St. Joseph when they learned they were expecting their first child. "We knew from so many friends' birth experience that St. Joe's had the caring and loving environment that we wanted for Reese's birth. Everything was handled so perfectly from the Emergency Department on Saturday night to the morning we were discharged, a new family of three, the following Tuesday."

"I am a high maintenance patient," says Elizabeth candidly. "My nerves get the better of me in hospitals and I questioned everything. The patience and kindness of everyone in the obstetric unit was something I will never forget. Melinda was an amazing labor and delivery nurse and Dr. Nachbahr and Dr. Guidice of Capital Women's Care made the whole experience wonderful."

The Pollocks were so pleased with their experience in the Mother Baby Unit that they made a substantial gift to Building For Our Future campaign before Reese was even three weeks old. "Family is so important to us and St. Joe's is the definition of 'family,'" concludes Jeremy.
