At UM Shore Medical Group – Pediatrics, our specialists offer preventive health maintenance for healthy children and medical care for children who are acutely or chronically ill.
We manage the physical, mental and emotional well-being for patients from birth through age 19.
Outpatient Pediatric Care
Our pediatricians offer a full range of outpatient pediatric care, including:
- Diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses
- Disease prevention
- Health counseling
- Patient education
- Routine checkups
- Screening tests
We always have same-day appointment space if your baby or child is sick, and a pediatrician will make time for you if they feel they should see your baby.
If it is after hours, please call the after-hours line at 410-822-1000 and ask for the pediatrician on call. If someone is not available to speak with you right then, the pediatrician on call will get back to you shortly.
After-Hours Call Center
We offer an after-hours phone service that is available to anyone who has a question regarding your child’s health after hours. You do not need to be a patient with us to call this after-hours line.
Inpatient Pediatric Care
Our Inpatient Pediatric Care is provided at our UM Shore Regional Medical Center at Easton.
If Your Baby Is Sick...
While your first instinct may be to take your sick baby to an urgent care center or emergency room (ER), our pediatricians encourage parents to call them first, because many times there is nothing an emergency department can do to help. Often, ERs and urgent care centers don't have a pediatrician on staff, and you don't want to expose your baby to unnecessary germs if you don't have to. You also want to avoid as much radiation as possible and limit the number of traumatic situations (blood draws).
However, the ER is suggested in these instances:
- If your baby is unresponsive, call 911.
- If your baby is in distress or can't breathe, call 911.
- If your baby has signs of dehydration (hasn't urinated in 8 hours), call your pediatrician first, but they may send you to the ER.
In all other instances, it is best to call the pediatrician or the nurse triage line first.
