Valarie Amos oversees HR integration for the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Downtown and Midtown campuses. She leads a team of HR business partners who coordinate the delivery and execution of core programs and processes across multiple business units. These include performance coaching and management, engagement and retention strategies, talent management and policy development.

Amos has nearly 20 years of healthcare leadership experience, previously serving as chief human resources officer for Cook County Health and Hospital System (CCHHS) in Chicago. In this role, she oversaw all functions of HR, including recruiting, compensation, leadership development, labor relations and performance management. Her responsibilities also included developing and executing strategic planning for HR services across all CCHHS affiliates.

While HR has been Valarie's focus for many years, she began her career as a nurse, which has helped inform her perspective on how healthcare organizations can best support team members. Her background instilled a passion for patient care, motivating her to deliver the best possible experience to team members.

Valarie takes pride in being part of a health system that offers Baltimore's underserved communities extraordinary patient care in clinical service lines.
