Senior Vice President, Perioperative & Procedural Services


Kevin Stierer, Sr., MD, MMM, CPE, is the Senior Vice President for Perioperative and Procedural Services at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the UM School of Medicine.

At UMMC, Dr. Stierer oversees all operating rooms and procedural areas, working in close partnership with the departments of Patient Care Services, Quality and Safety, and Patient Access. In collaboration with senior management, medical staff, clinical leaders and surgical staff, Dr. Stierer leads efforts to advance the operational and clinical activities of the hospital by continually improving efficiency, safety, effectiveness and patient centeredness of perioperative and procedural services.

Dr. Stierer is a board-certified anesthesiologist and an accomplished physician leader. Prior to joining UMMC, he served as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Medical Director of Perioperative Services at WellSpan York Hospital in Pennsylvania. Before his time at WellSpan, Dr. Stierer spent 14 years in various clinical leadership roles at University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center, including as Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Associate Director of the Cardiac Surgical Intensive Care Unit, and President of the Medical Staff.

Dr. Stierer received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and his medical degree from Georgetown University. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University and received a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
