Many lung health patients can benefit from pulmonary rehabilitation (PR), but especially those diagnosed with chronic disorders, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease. PR teaches you breathing techniques and helps you build stamina through supervised, monitored aerobic and weight training.
PR helps you breathe better and be an active participant in your life. For some people that means being able to do household chores like making a meal without having to sit down. For others, it means walking to the mailbox or going to church without stopping to cough. Our PR program is designed to let you:
- Be better able to perform tasks of daily living, such as household chores, shopping or other activities;
- Learn how to manage your symptoms and medications, which can mean fewer office visits and less time in the hospital;
- Relax and not panic when you feel short of breath;
- Do more of the things you enjoy.
PR is prescribed by your primary care provider or pulmonologist. PR is managed by our Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) who will work with you to create an individualized program that meets your specific needs.
