Providing greater health care to the residents of Prince George’s County and beyond. That’s the mission of University of Maryland Capital Region Health, the regional health system serving communities throughout the county. As the newest member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), UM Capital is committed to delivering the innovative and comprehensive health care you and your family deserve close to home.

UM Capital is made up of several hospitals and health care facilities that have had a longstanding presence in the community.

Bringing university-based medicine to Prince George’s County

So what does it mean to be part of the University of Maryland Medical System? It means being committed and uniquely qualified to deliver superior health care to the people of our state.

With more than 150 locations — including physician practices, urgent care and outpatient centers, 14 community hospitals and two specialty hospitals, from the Eastern Shore to central and southern Maryland — UMMS provides every type of health care service to Marylanders in their communities. All of this is connected to the academic University of Maryland Medical Center, in Baltimore, where clinical discoveries are bringing new treatments to the people of our state and beyond.

Through this university-based model of care, community physicians in Prince George’s County work side-by-side with specialists at the University of Maryland School of Medicine to bring a higher level of expertise and innovation in the care provided to patients.

Forging a healthier future together

While the establishment of UM Capital is complete, the evolution of health care in the Prince George’s community has only just begun. In the coming months and years, residents can expect to see a wider range of health services provided close to home, including physician practices focused on health management and outpatient care.

In 2021, a new state-of-the-art regional medical center in Largo will replace UM Prince George’s Hospital Center to improve the region’s access to specialty and hospital care services. And outpatient services will be expanded in Laurel, as well, through the development of a new medical campus.
