Current Resident Research Projects:

Ophthalmic research is the heart and hope for new approaches to treatment of eye diseases. The University ophthalmology faculty is engaged in clinically relevant and active bench research projects independent as well as in collaboration with scientists from various other departments in the Medical School. Residents are required to perform at least one research project in conjunction with one of the medical school faculty, and to present the state of their work at the annual Richard D. Richards research symposium day. Residents are encouraged to work with Departmental faculty, but can choose a project within any relevant field and University or outside researcher with permission. In addition residents regularly present at local and national meetings including: The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society Annual Meeting (NANOS), American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), Atlantic Coast Retina Club, Annual Meeting of the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons during the most recent academic year.
