What to Expect at the ER: Our priority is to treat each person in our emergency rooms as fully, safely and quickly as possible. We see patients based on how serious their conditions are. Patients are not seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Learn more about what to expect at the ER.

The emergency room's entrance is on Lombard Street between Greene and Penn Streets. There is 5-minute, patient drop-off street parking outside the entrance, and longer term parking is available at several nearby garages.

Emergency Services

The Emergency Department at the University of Maryland Medical Center - Downtown Campus provides emergency care 24 hours a day. UMMC's services include:

Pediatric Emergency Department

UMMC's Pediatric ER (right) is adjacent to the adult ER, but it is solely dedicated to serving infants, children and teenagers. It includes a separate triage area, playroom and waiting area.

There are 16 pediatric treatment areas, many of which are glass enclosed, providing a quiet and safe environment. These rooms are spacious in order to improve patient and family comfort for evaluation and management of simple problems to more complex issues that require admission.
