Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the University of Maryland Medical Center

Ron Cummins oversees the daily operations of the Medical Center’s Downtown and Midtown campuses.  He also leads the development and execution of strategies and initiatives, which aim to deliver safe, high-quality and cost-effective services for our patients, faculty, staff and visitors.

With more than 20 years of operations and business development leadership experience, Ron has created a culture for cross-functional teams to overcome complex challenges to deliver value and results. He has a broad base of experience in clinical operations, operating and capital budget planning, patient safety, process improvement and physician relations. He also brings extensive knowledge in healthcare information technology, mergers and acquisitions, labor relations, Joint Commission readiness, strategic planning and business development, and major contract negotiations.

Ron earned his MBA from Johns Hopkins University and his bachelor's degree from Hampton University.  He is a member of the Vizient Academic Medical Center Senior Operations Officer Executive Committee and serves on the Penn State University MHA Board of Visitors and the Penn State University Health Policy and Administration (HPA) Undergraduate Advisory Board.
