Karen Doyle, DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, is the Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Dr. Doyle has more than 35 years of nursing experience, including 15 years leading key emergency nursing, care management and patient experience initiatives at UMMC.

As CNO, Dr. Doyle serves as a member of the medical center’s senior leadership team overseeing nursing practice, patient outcomes and research at its Downtown and Midtown campuses. She brings a broad array of experience as a proven, transformational leader who has delivered innovative patient experience solutions and high standards of practice across clinical settings.

Previously, Dr. Doyle served as senior vice president of nursing and operations at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at UMMC, Maryland’s Primary Adult Resource Center (PARC) serving more than 7,500 critically ill and severely injured patients annually. Additionally, she shared a significant leadership role in the medical center’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine rollout. In 2024, UMMC earned its fourth consecutive Magnet designation while she was on the leadership team.

Dr. Doyle holds a doctorate of nursing practice from the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a master’s of business administration from Loyola University, Baltimore. In addition to her clinical and administrative responsibilities, Dr. Doyle serves as a faculty associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She is also a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and serves as a member of the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital Center’s board of directors.
