University of Maryland Medical System ‘A Better State of Care’ Brand Campaign Airing During Summer Olympics Coverage

When Marylanders are watching the 2024 Summer Olympics during the next several weeks, in addition to keeping an eye out for more than 20 athletes from the state, they will also see the state’s largest hospital system represented. ‘A Better State of Care,’ a brand campaign produced by the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), an academic-focused health network that provides 25% of all hospital-based care in the state, will be airing on Peacock locally.

UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center’s Critical Care Division Receives Gold Beacon Award for Excellence from American Association of Critical Care Nurses

The Intensive and Intermediate Care units at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC), together representing the hospital’s Critical Care Division, have received the Gold Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The award is presented to inpatient care units that create a supportive work environment for nurses and provide the highest level of care to critically ill patients.

Three University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) hospitals – the University of Maryland Medical Center (Downtown Campus), UM St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson (Baltimore County) and UM Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie (Anne Arundel County) – rank among the top five hospitals in the Baltimore region and the state, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2024 Best Hospitals, released today.

Those living in disadvantaged neighborhoods have significantly higher activity of stress-related genes, new research suggests, which could contribute to higher rates of aggressive prostate cancer in African American men. The study, which was co-led by the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), was published today in JAMA Network Open.
