We offer coronavirus (COVID-19) testing to patients 12 months of age and older at all of our UM Urgent Care centers.
At UM Urgent Care, all COVID-19 related patients are seen and evaluated by the provider on duty. This includes patients without symptoms, who present solely for a COVID-19 test.
We perform send-out PCR COVID-19 tests and a Rapid Antigen COVID-19 test to detect the presence of the virus. Our PCR and Rapid Antigen tests are able to detect all know variants of COVID-19, but can not distinguish what variant of COVID-19 a patient has.
We offer serology testing, also known as antibodies testing. This is a blood test that can detect COVID-19 antibodies that a patient's immune system creates in response to the virus.
You should consider being tested if:
COVID-19 rapid antigen testing results are available within 15 minutes. These results are reviewed during your visit.
COVID-19 test PCR tests are sent to an outside lab, Acutis. PCR results typically take 24-48 hours. Your results will be emailed to you from the Acutis lab. The only exception is COVID-19 tests that are part of a pre-op for a surgery or procedure at an UMMS facility; these tests will be sent to an UMMS lab for results.
Please Note: COVID-19 test and turnaround times are subject to change.
A positive test result means it is very likely that you have COVID-19. Your healthcare provider will discuss your care with you based on your medical history, current symptoms and possible exposures. You may be asked to stay home or follow additional precautions to avoid spreading the virus to others.
A negative test result means that you likely do not have COVID-19. It does not, however, preclude a SARS-CoV-2 infection with certainty. You will still need to continue practicing good social distancing and infection prevention measures, like wearing a mask outside the home and sanitizing and washing your hands frequently.
As the state of Maryland's capacity for conducting coronavirus testing expands, people with coronavirus symptoms and, in some cases, those without can be tested for active COVID-19 disease.
UM Urgent Care accepts most major insurance plans. If you plan to use your health insurance for your visit, you need to bring a valid ID and your current insurance card. Please contact your insurance company before being tested to see if you will be responsible for any of the testing fees.
All self-pay patients are responsible for UM Urgent Care's standard visit services fees. Learn more about Simple Payment Options for our patients who wish to pay using cash instead of insurance.
You can receive a COVID-19 test at any of our UM Urgent Care locations. Walk-ins are welcome, or save yourself some time and check-in online.
UM Urgent Care centers focus on patient safety and comfort. Patients with any potential COVID-19 related symptoms are taken to a private suite upon arrival. Mandatory masking and social distancing measures are strictly followed.
