About Me
As a pediatric endocrinologist, Dr. Newton treats conditions including Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, thyroid disorders, short stature, and early and late puberty. Her other interests include identifying health care disparities, increasing diversity in medicine and medical education, and addressing social determinants of health and their impact on patient care.
Dr. Newton maintains a clinical focus on improving glycemic control in children with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, especially in high-risk populations and underserved communities. She is the division chief of pediatric endocrinology and chair of the Pediatric Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council for the Department of Pediatrics at University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Dr. Newton graduated from Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis, Missouri. She completed her pediatrics residency at Inova Children's Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, and her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Washington University in St. Louis. She completed her Master of Business Administration degree at Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School in Baltimore, Maryland. She holds a certificate in intercultural leadership from University of Maryland.
Dr. Newton has been named a "Top Doctor" by Baltimore magazine several years in a row.
