Congratulations to UMGCCC’s own Kim Peterson, MSN, APRN-CNS, ACCNS-AG, OCN, UMMC Stoler Outpatient Nurse Manager and Heather Thomas, UMMC Stoler Business Operations Manager named 2020 COVID-19 Healthcare Heroes by The Daily Record. Dr. Liz Nichols of Radiation Oncology was also recognized as Physician of the Year.

Kim and Heather were selected from a field of 60 nominations for the work they do to protect our vulnerable cancer patients during this global pandemic. Kim, Heather, and Liz truly embody heroism and we are so proud of their work each and every day!

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan Celebrates 5 Years Cancer Free

Governor Larry Hogan presented his oncologist, Dr. Aaron Rapoport, on June 18, 2020 with a special citation in belated celebration of Dr. Rapoport's 60th birthday.

The governor was celebrating his own anniversary -- five years since he was diagnosed with a very aggressive, advanced cancer and underwent treatment at the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The governor announced that after completing his five-year checkup, he is still cancer-free!

Greenebaum Compassion Awardees 2019

Congratulations to Rachael Tavik, BSN, RN, SCN1, and Helen Ploussiou, MSW, LMSW, who received the 2019 Greenebaum Compassion Award in recognition of the extraordinary, compassionate care they provide to our patients. This award was presented at the All Hands Meeting on December 16, 2019 to Rachael and Helen on behalf of the Greenebaum family.

Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum established the award in 2007 to commend staff members who go above and beyond their normal duties to provide not only excellent patient care, but also compassion, hope and dignity at a time when patients are so vulnerable.
