Ellen MarciniakHello prospective UMMC Midtown Campus residents, I am excited to have you visit the website and learn more about our program!

UMMC Midtown Campus internal medicine residency offers some unique training opportunities. As a community-based program serving inner city Baltimore, you will see a wide variety of internal medicine problems and help guide patients with more limited resources on their medical journey. Through its affiliation with University of Maryland Medical Center, this program also offers the resources and experiences of a university program. Through my roles at both the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Midtown Campus, I serve as a link between the campuses and what each can offer.

There is a very collegial attitude among the residents and one of respect between residents and attending physicians. The supportive culture and dedication to education were why I was happy to join the faculty after finishing my pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Maryland and happier still to join the program director staff at the end of 2017. I hope you'll consider UMMC Midtown Campus for your internal medicine residency training!

gerbino headshotThank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine residency program at UMMC Midtown. I'd like to welcome you and share with you some aspects of our program.

After completing my Internal Medicine residency at Boston University in the primary care track, I've had the opportunity to see how primary care is delivered in both academic and community practice settings. I was welcomed to the UMMC Midtown team in early 2020 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with residents and caring for our patients. The ambulatory experience here provides a unique opportunity to provide primary care for a diverse patient population in Baltimore. The UMMC Midtown Health Center, where the continuity clinic is located, maintains a small office feel but has access to the diverse set of resources that UMMC health system provides to its patients. This unique environment allows us to deliver high value care to our patients.

As the director of the ambulatory component to your training, my goal is to not only excite you about primary care but to also help you develop outpatient skills that will be valuable to you regardless of your chosen career path. You'll be able to see the value of developing a therapeutic relationship with your patients to help manage their medical issues. During your time in clinic, you will broaden your clinical knowledge by seeing patients directly as well as through ambulatory didactic sessions. It is a particularly exciting time to be here as UMMC is planning a new outpatient tower on our campus that will help reshape how outpatient care will be delivered to our community.

We welcome you and hope to see you soon!
