Wuqaas M. Munir, MD, joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in August 2014 as an associate professor and chief of ophthalmology at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. He is also the chief of the cornea service at the University of Maryland and the cornea fellowship director. His clinical interests include cornea, external disease and refractive surgery.
Dr. Munir received his medical degree in 2001 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency in 2005 at the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by a fellowship in cornea, external disease, anterior segment surgery and refractive surgery at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in 2006. Dr. Munir then served as assistant professor for eight years at the Boston University School of Medicine, where he also was the director of the cornea service as well as cornea fellowship director.
Dr. Munir specializes in complex cataract surgery and lamellar (partial-thickness) corneal transplant surgery. He also performs refractive surgery such as LASIK.
