Dr. Harrison is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. He is currently the interim Director of the University of Maryland Center for Multiple Sclerosis. Dr. Harrison specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Dr. Harrison also directs an active research program focused on the development and validation of new techniques for imaging of the brain and spinal cord for application to multiple sclerosis research and clinical trials.
Dr. Harrison’s research program is currently focused on utilization of novel MRI techniques, including ultra-high-field, 7-tesla MRI for visualization of cortical pathology, neurodegeneration, and meningeal inflammation in multiple sclerosis. Dr. Harrison's research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society and industry partners. Dr. Harrison is also an active investigator in the Maryland Center for MS clinical trials program. Learn more about the UM Multiple Sclerosis Neuroimaging and Biomarker Research Group.

Dr. Harrison received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York and completed a neurology residency at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, where he was chief resident. He holds board certification in neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and he received subspecialty training by completing a fellowship in neuroimmunology and neuroinfectious disease at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Harrison was on faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Multiple Sclerosis Center from 2010 through 2015, at which time he joined our faculty. He was appointed our center's interim Director in 2018.
