The University of Maryland Medical System was recently named to Newsweek's "America's Greatest Workplaces 2023 for Diversity," which recognizes the top 1,000 companies in the United States for diversity. Newsweek, in partnership with marketing data firm Plant-A Insights Group, created this ranking using data from a variety of sources.

The data sources included a review of publicly available data and interviews with Human Resources professionals, as well as an anonymous online survey of over 350,000 company reviews from employees of large-scale U.S. employers with more than 1,000 employees. This information was used to determine the best workplaces by state in the following categories: diversity, LGBTQ+, empowerment of women, veterans and job starters, and more. The study was completed between September and December of 2022.

This recognition speaks to UMMS's commitment to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Diversity is a fundamental tenet and focus at UMMS, which is further evidenced by the five System values we announced last fall. Having a diverse workforce that respects and values people's differences makes us stronger as an organization as well as more welcoming to patients and team members from all backgrounds.
