Dr. Pietris is a pediatric cardiologist who specializes is non-invasive cardiac imaging and cardiopulmonary exercise stress testing. After completing his undergraduate and medical studies (bachelor of science in biochemistry, SUNY Stony Brook and medical doctorate, SUNY Buffalo) he completed a residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Yale New Haven Hospital. There, his research involved non-invasive imaging using ultrasound and CTA (computed tomographic angiography) of small animal tissue-engineered vascular grafts which were being studied in order to develop similar grafts for use in pediatric cardiac surgery.
After completing his fellowship at Yale, he continued his training and research in advanced pediatric cardiac imaging within the Children's Heart Program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
Dr. Pietris’ academic interests include non-invasive cardiac imaging using advanced echocardiographic techniques such as speckle tracking and three-dimensional echocardiography. Additionally, Dr. Pietris is interested in the use of low radiation dose cardiac CTA and free-breathing cardiac MRI in the evaluation of congenital and acquired heart disease.
