Dr. Woodworth was named a Top Doctor in the specialty of Neurosurgery by Baltimore magazine in 2020.

I was drawn to studying medicine because of my deep interest in clinical science, research and a desire to improve human health. But it was the patients I encountered with complex neurosurgical problems who inspired me to be a neurosurgeon. I saw how quick action and problem solving could save a patient's life, and I wanted to fight with and for these patients by focusing on neurosurgical techniques while improving our understanding of neurological structure and function.

In our UM Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center and Brain Tumor program, I care for patients with tumors in and around the brain and spinal cord. This often also includes disorders of cerebrospinal fluid flow such as hydrocephalus. I also take care of patients with traumatic neurological injuries of the brain and spine in our Shock Trauma Center. My particular focus is on:

  • Vestibular Schwannoma/Acoustic Neuroma surgery/radiosurgery
  • Pituitary Tumor Surgery – combined microscopic/endoscopic
  • Glioma and Metastatic tumor surgery with awake brain mapping
  • MRI-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS)
  • Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LITT)
  • Cranial reconstruction

My team and I take a very personalized approach for each of our patients. Working closely with experts in anesthesiology, critical care medicine, electrophysiology, neurology and rehabilitation, we will provide you with surgical and clinical excellence in all areas of your care.

We stay ahead of the curve when it comes to technology, leading in the development and use of treatment options designed to improve outcomes through less invasive approaches, like with MRI-guided focused ultrasound.

We will fight for each patient and give hope for success, even under dire conditions. Because we collaborate with experts in many different fields, we are able to see each diagnosis from all angles and carefully consider new or alternative approaches to achieve the best outcome for each patient.

When it comes to research, our team is leading clinical trials designed to develop and study Focused Ultrasound for the treatment of numerous neurological disorders, including Blood Brain Barrier opening for enhanced therapeutic delivery to brain tumors.

I did my residency training at Johns Hopkins University, where I received the Galbraith Award from the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, presented to the resident with the best abstract submission at the Annual Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) Meeting.

Societies I belong to include:

  • American Board of Neurological Surgeons
  • American Association of Neurological Surgeons
  • American College of Surgeons
  • Society for Neuro-Oncology
