Our UMMS team members are role models in our local communities, and often help friends and neighbors navigate the health care system, regardless of their job responsibilities. The UMMS referral bonus program acknowledges and rewards this advocacy.

Do you know someone whose skills, experience and alignment with UMMS values would be a good fit for an open position? Encourage them to apply to any member organization and list you as the referring team member. If they are hired at any member organization, you may be eligible for a referral bonus between $500 and $5,000. All open positions are eligible; bonus amounts are based on position demand.

Eligibility and Requirements

Referring Team Members

  • Active UMMS team members except current active UMMS Executives, MIP eligible leaders (or leaders with direct reports), Human Resources team members, physicians, contractors, and/or independent consultants are not eligible to receive referral bonuses.
  • Both referring team member and referred new hire must be actively employed by UMMS at the time of the bonus payment.

Referred Candidates

  • Must not have been employed by UMMS within the six (6) months prior to their first day of employment (date of hire/rehire)
  • Must not have worked for UMMS in a non-staff member role (i.e., student, intern, volunteer, contract staff or temporary staff) within the six (6) months prior to their first day of employment (date of hire/rehire).
  • Must list the referrer’s name as the source of hire on the application and/or use the custom link emailed from the hiring system.
  • Both referring team member and referred new hire must be actively employed by UMMS at the time of the bonus payment.

Bonus Payments

  • $5,000 – PAM RN (or comparable RN direct patient care), cardiac cath lab technologist and interventional radiology technologist
    50% of the referral bonus paid after the new hire completes 6 months; 50% after 12 months of employment.

  • $2,500 – High-demand clinical roles
    50% of the referral bonus paid after the new hire completes 6 months; 50% after 12 months of employment.

    • Radiology
    • Respiratory Therapy
    • Social Worker
    • Surgical Tech
    • Ultrasound/Sonographer
  • $500 – all other roles across the System
    100% of the referral bonus paid after the new hire completes 6 months of employment.

How to Participate

The program is in effect for 6 months starting August 8, 2023. We will continually evaluate its competitiveness and alignment with our strategic priorities, and will make changes to or end the program if it does not demonstrate meaningful impact to our recruiting efforts.

Tips for Participating 

  • Talk with your friends and acquaintances about what it’s like to work at UMMS. Describe your work day, your coworkers, and highlight what you enjoy about your career at UMMS.
  • Become familiar with job openings available throughout the System by browsing jobs.umms.org.
  • When you see an opening that may be a good fit for someone you know, talk with them about the position and encourage them to apply using one of the options detailed above.
  • Explain that if they are interested, UMMS offers a referral bonus program, and that you will be able to receive a bonus if they are hired. Emphasize that they will also be eligible for the referral bonus program after they are hired.
  • It’s important to make sure the person you are referring knows you are recommending them because of their skills, alignment with UMMS values, and their ability to perform the responsibilities of the position. The bonus payment is how UMMS shows its appreciation to current team members for helping identify qualified individuals to join our team.
