Mobile Device Management (MDM) User Guide for Apple IOS and Android Devices

For most users, the University of Maryland Medical System is utilizing IBM's MaaS360 Mobile Device Management (MDM) to protect your mobile device for use with your Hospital email account. This application will be used to secure your email with your phone and add a passcode to your device for protection. Your email functionality is still directly linked to the UMMS Exchange Servers and utilizes the native applications for Mail, Contacts, Reminders (Tasks) and Notes. You can self-enroll your personal device with these instructions below:

However, if you have been migrated to Microsoft 365 (or your previous phone used Intune), MaaS360 will not be used, and instead you can self-enroll your personal device by following this step-by-step process for getting a phone registered with Intune.

Protect Your Device! - Antivirus

UMMS strongly recommends using antivirus software on personal devices used to remotely access UMMS Resources, however please ensure that it comes from a trustworthy source:

  1. An UMMS-verified antivirus program for personal devices used in telework is available:
TrendMicro – a free 6-month trial of their commercial software is available via
    http://visit.trendmicro.com/i9KC0QXHSAW00X0b6rn3D0d

Choose either the PC or MAC version and register with your personal email.
  2. Paid versions of anti-virus programs, obtained directly from McAfee, Norton by Symantec, and Sophos, can be trusted as well.
  3. Verify any other source of anti-virus protection with the IT Security Team (ITS-SecurityTeam@umm.edu) before installing.
Many offers of “free” antivirus, especially ones branded around special offers of Coronavirus protection, are actually Malware.
