About Me

Richard J. Mason, M.D. joined Delmarva Orthopaedic Clinic, PA now known as The Orthopedic Center in 2000. His main concentration of practice has been that of sports medicine and joint replacement.

Dr. Mason is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine, and completed his internship in general surgery at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He completed Flight Surgery Training at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute of Pensacola, Florida, and served as Head Flight Surgeon for a United States Marine Corps combat helicopter squadron during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. Dr. Mason completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Naval Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He went on to complete an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship at Hahnemann and Graduate Hospitals in Philadelphia, where he was an assistant team physician for three professional sports teams.

Dr. Mason is a principal with The Orthopedic Center in Easton, Maryland, holds a faculty position as a clinical instructor in orthopedics at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and is the Medical Director for the Surgery Center of Easton.

Dr. Mason's professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Maryland Orthopedic Association, MedChi Faculty, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine.

A strong supporter of local communities, Dr. Mason has served as a team physician for collegiate and high school teams since 1998. He has volunteered his time to coach in various recreational leagues. Currently, he is the team physician for Talbot County Schools.

Dr. Mason lectures frequently on sports injury prevention. His special orthopedic interests include advanced arthroscopic techniques to manage injuries of the shoulder, knee, and adult reconstructive joint surgery.

Dr. Mason is a member of the University of Maryland Joint Network, a group of surgeons known for their advanced expertise and positive outcomes in total hip and knee replacement.
