About Me
Dr. Crandall's areas of clinical interests include spinal oncology, complex spine surgery, neurotrauma and general neurosurgery. He specializes in treating benign and cancerous tumors of the vertebrae and spinal cord. As a fellowship-trained surgeon, he can treat all aspects of spine disease, including degenerative diseases, deformities, trauma, tumors and infections.
Procedures Dr. Crandall specializes in include:
- Complex tumor and deformity surgery
- Minimally invasive spine surgery
- Robotic spine surgery using the Mazor robot
- Revision surgery
- Artificial disc replacement
Another specialty of his is complex revision surgery for patients who have had spinal operations but continue to experience pain or discomfort. He also cares for patients with brain tumors, hydrocephalus and brain trauma.
Dr. Crandall and his team have excellent experience treating the most complex spinal disorders and have access to the most advanced technology and resources. They work with each patient in finding the right options for them. Their goal is to maximize management of the patient's condition before considering surgery.
Dr. Crandall knew as a child that he wanted a career in medicine. It was his affinity for fixing things with his hands that drew him to the specialty of surgery. During his college years, he developed a passion for neuroscience and decided he wanted to pursue a career in neurosurgery. He has been recognized as a "Top Doctor" in the specialties of neurosurgery and spine surgery by Baltimore magazine.
Dr. Crandall is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and Joint Spine Section. He serves on several local, national and international committees. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Neurosurgical Society and the editorial board for the International Journal of Spine Surgery. In addition, he is a neurotrauma consultant for the National Football League.
