Volunteen applications for the 2024 summer program will be accepted from April 1 through May 5, 2024.

NOTE: If the COVID-19 virus progresses and the hospital has to implement its emergency preparedness program, the Volunteen Program may be cancelled.

UM Charles Regional Medical Center offers a Volunteen Program. This volunteer experience is a great way for a teen who is 15-17 years old (will be a rising high school sophomore, junior or senior for school year 2024-2025) to learn about the healthcare environment as a possible future career.

The Volunteen Program provides:

  • Experience working in a professional setting at a young age.
  • Exposure to hospital atmosphere to help a teen to consider a career in the healthcare field.
  • Excellent reference for future education or job application.
  • Satisfaction in serving human and community needs.
  • Opportunity to obtain further information about career fields.

What will I do as a Volunteen?

Volunteens learn about the hospital setting while assisting staff members and patients. Duties may include assisting clinical staff with patient care duties, performing administrative tasks, providing excellent customer service, and so much more.

You will spend between 4 and 12 hours each week during the summer at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center.

How do I get involved?

If you are between 15 and 17 years old and have not yet graduated from high school (will be a rising high school sophomore, junior or senior for school year 2024-2025), please fill out the Volunteen Application. Once you have completed the online application, print the Volunteen Reference Forms and Volunteen Permission Forms. References must be returned prior to the May 15, 2024 deadline.

We review all applicants to determine eligibility for training. We will set up an interview with you at UM CRMC to discuss your interests. The Volunteen Permission Form should be brought to your interview.

If you have questions about the Volunteen Program or need assistance, please call 301-609-4095.
