Help UM Charles Regional Medical Center Meet the Needs of Our Growing Community

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare and to accommodate the growing needs of Charles County, our Emergency Department (ED) is undergoing a large-scale expansion and modernization.

This project will enable the clinical team to more efficiently provide excellent care to patients, while enabling the hospital to continue to meet the needs of our growing county. The expansion is set to open in early 2024.

ED Improvements

At the conclusion of our project, improvements to the Emergency Department will include:

  • An expanded, more comfortable Emergency Department waiting area.
  • A dedicated, 12-chair area for patients to wait comfortably pending test results.
  • Improved nursing hubs that will allow clinical team members to be closer to their patients' rooms.
  • Additional examination rooms, which will enable the hospital to better accommodate Charles County's ongoing population growth. Last year, nearly 50,000 patients visited the UM Charles Regional Emergency Department.
