The Shock Trauma Center Simulation Labs are designed to simulate the flow of patients through the Shock Trauma Center.
From roadside to recovery, we'll make sure you're prepared for different scenarios you may encounter at your hospital.

Trauma Resuscitation Unit
The Trauma Resuscitation Unit (TRU) is the receiving unit for patients entering the Shock Trauma Center of the University of Maryland Medical Center.
This is where the trauma team conducts the initial assessment and resuscitation of patients.
Patients then may go directly to the operating room or to the intensive care unit or floor.
The TRU sim lab has 2 trauma bays that mirror the bays in the actual TRU.
Operating Room
Critically-injured patients often need immediate surgical intervention.
The simulated operating room has an anesthesia machine, operating room table, and other equipment that would typically be found in an actual operating room.
Multi-purpose Room
The fourth sim lab room can mimic many different types of rooms in the hospital.
It is equipped with electrical, oxygen, and suction outlets similar to what could be found in a variety of locations in the hospital, including med-surg floors and the post-anesthesia care unit.
Intensive Care Unit
The intensive care unit (ICU) sim lab is laid out much like a standard ICU room in the Shock Trauma Critical Care Tower.
This includes the tower that has electrical outlets, oxygen and suction outlets, and mounts for monitors.
The lab also has the type of built-in lift in the ceiling that is mounted in standard ICU rooms.
