Getting Started: Transplant Surgery
To enter our transplant program requires a thorough evaluation of your medical history and an examination.
Whether you’re looking to be placed on the organ waiting list or join our living donor program, our pre-transplant team will help you every step of the way.
While most transplant candidates are referred to the program by a medical professional or social worker, they may also enter by calling us directly at 1-800-492-5538.
All transplants are performed at UMMC's downtown Baltimore campus; however, evaluations and follow-up care can be done at a number of locations in the Mid-Atlantic region. We offer eVisits for the initial evaluation for out-of-state patients.
Transplant Evaluation
When you begin your transplant evaluation, we will connect you with one of our transplant nurse coordinators who will:
- Help you understand what to expect of the transplant process
- Make all of your appointments
- Answer questions and be a consistent point of contact for you
Experts from various specialties will work closely together with you, your family and your home physician. At UMMC, we are passionate about providing personalized care that meets the needs of each individual and involves patients’ families and caregivers every step of the way.

Our liver and kidney programs work with living-donor transplants as well as offer pediatric transplant surgeries. Our pancreas transplant program offers simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplants.
