The University of Maryland Center for Infectious Diseases is a trusted partner of the Institute of Human Virology (IHV), an institute of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, comprised of IHV faculty and partners leading the state in treating and researching infectious diseases and disorders caused by infectious organisms like bacteria, fungi, parasites and viruses.

The IHV's team of dedicated faculty provide state of the art care both when a patient is hospitalized at UMMC and in our out-patient infectious disease practices, including those receiving outpatient intravenous antibiotic therapy (OPAT).

In addition, the IHV supports programs including the JACQUES Initiative, an outreach program that changes lives, engages communities and supports health systems affected by HIV and hepatitis C; and the THRIVE Program.

THRIVE stands for together healing, reaching, inspiring to achieve victory over illness, and embrace life. The THRIVE Program, located at the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus, specializes in preventing, treating and managing a range of illnesses, including hepatitis C and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Through the IHV and its associated faculty and programs, patients have access to advanced, comprehensive clinical care as well as the latest infectious disease research, including at the IHV's Clinical Research Unit.
