Maria Mayzel, CNM, WHNP BC

Maria Mayzel specializes in gynecologic, prenatal, intrapartum and postpartum care. As a certified nurse-midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner, she provides assessments, diagnoses and treatments for patients. Her clinical interests include supporting reproductive health throughout the lifespan and providing primary care for women via integrative modalities.

Throughout her career, Mayzel has been dedicated to the health of women and children. She has more than 20 years of experience working in women’s health and maternal and child health, including more than eight years as a certified nurse-midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner. She has presented at national and international conferences and served women and children around the world with organizations including the Peace Corps, Save the Children and the Georgetown University Institute for Reproductive Health. Prior to becoming a nurse-midwife, she served as a labor and delivery nurse, birth assistant, childbirth educator, maternal child nursing instructor, certified birth doula and prenatal patient advocate. She previously attended more than 750 births at a combined hospital/birth center practice.

Mayzel sits on a number of committees dedicated to peer review and the provision of safe obstetric and midwifery care at the hospital, University of Maryland Medical System and state levels. She is an active member of the American College of Nurse Midwives, for which she serves on the Legislative Committee.
