Lisa M. Shulman, MD

Dr. Shulman is a neurologist. She specializes in treating Parkinson's disease and other movement and memory disorders.

In addition to neurology, Dr. Shulman's diverse background includes training in health policy, nursing and education. She is active in promoting health policy initiatives in chronic illness care. She was instrumental in the introduction of The Chronic Illness Care Improvement Act of 2000, a comprehensive legislative initiative to improve the care of serious and potentially disabling chronic illness. She also conducts research on the development and testing of interventions that reduce the impact of chronic diseases on patients' quality of life.

Dr. Shulman is the Eugenia Brin Professor of Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders at University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), the first recipient of the prestigious professorship at the institution. In addition, she is the Rosalyn Newman Distinguished Scholar in Parkinson Disease. She is program director of UMSOM's Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center, a division of the Department of Neurology and a full-service diagnostic center for Parkinson's disease. She served as treasurer of the American Academy of Neurology and is on the board of directors of the American Academy of Neurology.

Currently, Dr. Shulman serves on the board of directors of the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) Health Organization and the American Brain Foundation.
