Student Nurse Externship Program
For nursing students ready to enhance their clinical competence and prepare for the challenging role ahead, UMMC's Student Nurse Externship Program offers the in-depth training that can put your career on the fast track. This is a paid ten week summer program that typically runs from the first week of June through the first week of August. You will work one-on-one with a nurse preceptor, attend education classes, present a poster project at the end of the program and keep bi-weekly journals.
To be considered, all students must be a BSN or CNL candidate with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and graduating in December of the application year or the following May. You must have completed the Basic Fundamentals and Health Assessment courses as well as Adult Health (or equivalent) and hold CNA licensure for the state of Maryland. The application deadline is the second week of December for the following summer's program (see actual due date on the Student Nurse Externship application). You must be available to work 36 hours per week during the summer months. All applicants must be Maryland state residents.
