Stefanie Fischell, M.D.
Medical School: University of Maryland School of Medicine
I grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland in a family of University of Maryland alumni (GO TERPS!). It was no surprise that I chose UMD for my undergraduate education where I majored in neurobiology and physiology. Outside of class, you could either find me in marching band or playing sports. I also spent a summer in Spain taking care of 3 adorable children who taught me how to sing SpongeBob SquarePants in Spanish. After graduating, I accepted an IRTA research fellowship at the NIH and then transitioned to a job working for Roche Diagnostics Prior to medical school, I also spent time volunteering with manatees and primates in Sarteneja, Belize. I met my now fiancé right before starting medical school at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine. His grandfather set us up on a blind date at a tennis court and 4 years later we are thrilled to have couples matched to our home program which we both love! I chose pediatrics because where else can you dress up, make goofy animal noises and get hugs from your patients? I love hiking, traveling and playing strategy board games, but my favorite thing to do is spend time with my family - especially my adorable niece Emily and nephew Jason.
