Welcome to the University of Maryland! We are excited about the upcoming academic year and look forward to meeting you all at orientation. This page should serve as a reference for you during orientation and as you start your intern year. All the topics below will be covered in more detail during orientation. Take a look around!
Department of Medicine intern orientation will take place from June 10, 2019 – June 21, 2019. You are expected to be in attendance for all days.

The Intern Welcome Dinner is on Saturday June 15th! Please remember to respond to the evite. We look forward to seeing you all there!!
There will be a schedule of social events organized by your chief residents emailed and handed out on the first day of orientation.
Training Modules (IHI, Palliative Care and UMMC modules)
IHI Open School Training Modules DUE JUNE 24th 2019
All new residents/fellows must complete the following courses/lessons:
PS101: Introduction to Patient Safety (3 lessons)
PS102: From Error to Harm (3 lessons )
PS103: Human Factors and Safety (3 lessons)
PS104: Teamwork and Communication in a Culture of Safety (3 lessons)
QI101: Introduction to Healthcare Improvement (3 lessons)
QI102: How to Improve with the Model for Improvement (5 lessons)
QI103 Testing and Measuring Changes with the PSDA Cycles (3 lessons)
QI104: Interpreting Data, Run Charts, Control Charts and Other Measurement Tools (3 lessons)
Palliative Care Training Modules DUE JUNE 24th 2019

UMMC Annual Training Modules DUE SEPTEMBER 1st 2019
Modules have been assigned to you in UMMS U. You should have received information about how to access and complete these modules with your on-boarding paperwork for UMMC.
VA On-boarding and Badge Access
- VA credentialing and on-boarding instructions will be emailed to you prior to your arrival. All paperwork and online training must be completed before orientation starts on June 10.
- Instructions for fingerprinting and applying for a VA badge will also be emailed. You are encouraged to have fingerprinting done before you arrive for orientation. You can complete the badge process and pick up your badge during orientation. The VA badge office is located on the 6th floor of the VA.

EMR at UMMC and the VA
The EMR used is EPIC at University of Maryland and CPRS at the VA hospital. Please click the links below for some helpful tips and shortcuts when using these.
Your Buddy Resident
Every new intern is assigned a buddy resident in our program. Click to see who your buddy is. If you have not heard from them yet, feel free to reach out via email with any questions you have about residency or living in Baltimore!
Your rotation schedule can be found on www.amion.com (login: umdim).
The final intern schedule will not be completed to view until early June. All schedule request changes cannot be made until the first day of orientation. All schedule request changes must be made using schedule request forms. Emails to the chief residents will not be accepted. You will receive information about how to use and navigate your schedule using Amion on the first day of orientation.
