An average of 15 hours of general radiology departmental and interdepartmental conferences are held each week in the department. The majority are held at 7:30 am and 12:30 pm Monday through Friday in our state-of-the-art conference room, opened in 2007.

Work Rounds held Tuesday and Friday at 12:30 pm, are based on informal discussions of interesting cases by faculty, fellows, and residents. Residents are expected to attend 7:30 and 12:30 conferences and faculty and fellows are encouraged to attend the 12:30 conferences when work does not directly interfere. The cases presented are mainly current, supplemented with material selected from teaching files.

Departmental Grand Rounds are held most Wednesdays from September to June at 12:30 pm and feature guest lectures by distinguished visiting professors who present interesting cases from their work and describe cutting-edge approaches in the imaging sciences.

Diagnostic Radiology Journal Club is held the second Tuesday of each month and features selections from a range of clinical and research literature in the imaging sciences. Residents and fellows initiate discussions with summaries of cases, and freeform discussion by faculty, fellows, and residents is encouraged.

Radiology Pathology Correlation Conferences and Unknown Proven Case Conferences are held Thursdays at 12:30 pm.

In addition, the 7 campuses that form the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus offer a rich and varied range of educational conferences, training sessions, and guest lectures. Of particular note are (1) a vigorous program in the basics of research conduct offered through the University of Maryland School of Medicine Human Research Protections Office and (2) courses in grant writing, scientific presentation, scientific writing, and other topics offered through the Office of Faculty Affairs and Professional Development. Fellows are encouraged to participate, as departmental commitments allow, in these educational sessions.
