Fellows are expected to participate in scholarly efforts as part of their training. Fellows identify a faculty mentor with overlapping scholarly interests by the end of their first year of fellowship training and work with that mentor towards identification of a scholarly project with concrete goals and objectives. This may include original research with development of an abstract and writing of a manuscript, development of a case report or review article, or writing a letter to the editor.

Grand Rounds sessions in September are dedicated to showcasing divisional research in an effort to engage trainees and encourage divisional collaborations in research. An additional resource is the Research Compendium, a compilation of ongoing scholarly work within the division.

Each year, at our end-of-year banquet, we honor one fellow with an award for outstanding scholarship, named for Dr. Nathan H. Carliner, one of our former faculty members. A plaque resides within the Division of Cardiology commemorating the annual recipients of this award.

Dr. Charles Hong is the Melvin Sharoky Professor of Medicine and Research Director for the Cardiovascular Medicine Division. Here is a link to his lab.
