Medical School: Ohio State University College of Medicine

I was born in China, moved to the Netherlands when I was 4, made a pit stop in Rockville, MD at the age of 6 and eventually ended up in Ohio at 8 years old. I went to The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) for college and med school before rotating to Maryland for my pediatric residency. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, eating good food (especially Asian), cooking, shopping, and looking up cute panda pictures and videos on the internet. I’m excited to explore Baltimore and start my residency. I plan to do a fellowship in Heme/Onc or ID, or be a pediatric hospitalist and eventually go into outpatient.

Medical School: The Commonwealth Medical College

I grew up in Takoma Park, MD, but attended undergrad in Beloit, Wisconsin. After graduating I moved to Philly and did research for 3 years before medical school. I went to The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, PA. When I left Maryland as an 18 year old, I swore I would never come back – but here I am. It turns out I missed it a lot more than I thought, and am thrilled to be back home! I plan on going into primary care, but I’m also very indecisive, so I’m sure my plans will change at least a few times.

Medical School: Albert Einstein College of Medicine

Although born on the west coast, I was raised in Memphis for the majority of my life. I left the land off BBQ and Blues for the Big Apple where I got my undergraduate degree at Yeshiva University in Manhattan, and stayed close by for med school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. The residency program at UMMC was the perfect balance between that close-knit, small town feel I was used to growing up in TN, within a busy, urban tertiary hospital setting like where I trained for medical school. The future’s full of potential at this point, but I do have a special interest in oncology, having spent two summers working at St. Jude. When I’m not on the wards, (and we do have time not on the wards!), you can find me spending time with family, hiking, or exploring the city of Baltimore!

Medical School: University of Maryland School of Medicine

I was born and raised in Carroll County, MD just outside of Baltimore- the last of 4 boys growing up on a small “farm”. I attended the University of Maryland, College Park for undergrad and then immediately moved into Baltimore to start medical school at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. I knew from an early age  that I’d want to be a pediatrician after having had my own heart surgery at the age of 3. I loved the University of Maryland so much, that I couldn’t leave and so I stayed here to complete my pediatrics residency. When I'm not at work, you’ll likely find me hiking, waterskiing… or more likely watching Netflix on the couch.

Medical School: University of South Carolina School of Medicine

I was born and raised in Greenville, SC and moved just down the road to Columbia, SC to attend University of South Carolina School of Medicine.  I would later learn that it was destiny-- since I happened to move next door to the man who is now my husband. Ready for a new adventure, we were excited to head to University of Maryland for residency! I am already loving Baltimore and all the fun things happening in a big city.  In my free time I love trying new restaurants, beating my husband in volleyball, and playing fetch with my cat.

Medical School: Albany Medical College

I grew up in Seattle and went to a small liberal arts college in Southern California. I decided to trade the sunny weather for the snow of Upstate New York, where I attended medical school at Albany Medical College. During my years in Albany, I made wonderful friends and realized how much I loved pediatrics and working with children and their families. I am so excited to have moved to Baltimore and to be a resident at the University of Maryland! In my free time, I look forward to exploring the city with my new co-interns, going on runs, and trying out all of the amazing food that the city has to offer.

Medical School: Ohio State University College of Medicine

I was born in Columbus, OH, but I grew up in Seoul, South Korea for most of my childhood until I came back to the states for high school. I did my undergraduate studies at University of Notre Dame, and went to medical school at the Ohio State University. I've moved around a lot and I love to explore different cities, so I am very excited about moving to Baltimore! In my spare time, I try to spend as much time as possible with my fiancé who is an intern in EM, because time off together is not easy to come by. I also enjoy spending time with friends and plan on exploring the area with my awesome co-interns whenever I can. Other things I like to do include lounging around (let's be honest here..), watching college football (Go Irish and Buckeyes!!), traveling, fishing, yoga, anything food (cooking, baking, eating, etc), and trying new activities. I am very excited about all the new experiences to come my way in the next few years here in Baltimore!

Medical School: New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine

I grew up in Syracuse, NY and already miss the mild upstate NY summers! I went to Syracuse University for undergrad where I studied biology and French literature. I moved to Long Island, NY for medical school. Through school I worked with the global health program and we spent 3 weeks in Ghana and through an outside organization I spent 4 weeks working in a children's hospital ward in Pokhara, Nepal. I’m really excited to have the chance to work at UMMC and explore Baltimore!

In my spare time, I love reading, trying new restaurants, spending afternoons on the beach, and hiking up to beautiful mountain views.

Medical School: University of Massachusetts Medical School

I was born and raised in North Andover, MA, and went to school at Phillips Academy Andover before leaving for college in Pennsylvania at Bucknell University. I returned to MA after college and lived in Boston for 3 years prior to attending UMASS medical school where I met my husband, who is an anesthesiology intern at Maryland.
We have loved living in Baltimore so far! Our chocolate lab, Emma, also loves this dog friendly city. In my free time I like doing yoga, going for hikes, cooking, and traveling.

After residency, I am leaning towards practicing primary care pediatrics.

Medical School: Temple University School of Medicine

I grew up outside Chicago, IL and went to Duke University for undergrad where I majored in chemistry. After working in New York City for a few years, I moved to Philly where I went to the Temple University School of Medicine. I have an older sister who lives in New York, and my parents live outside Philly with our three dogs and Walter the cat. I love cooking, especially baking desserts, and traveling (locally and abroad). After a long day I like to relax by going to a spinning class or binging on Netflix. I’m excited to be in Baltimore for (at least) the next three years, and am planning to be involved in academics and medical teaching in my career, either as a primary pediatrician or possibly as a subspecialist.

Medical School: George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences

I grew up in Buffalo, NY and moved to DC to attend George Washington University for medical school. As much as I love snow, it was very easy to get used to warmer weather! In my spare time I enjoy going to brunch, dancing, watching reality TV, traveling and spending time with family and friends. I think chubby babies and little kids are very cute and I’m very excited to be at University of Maryland to start my residency alongside new friends and colleagues!

Amanda Bana Fernandez, M.D.Amanda Thompson, M.D.
Medical School: University of Maryland School of Medicine

I am a born and raised Baltimorean and feel so privileged to have had all of my training here! I am the oldest of four and am super close with my family. I even lived at home through all of undergrad and first year of med school! I went to UMBC, where I double majored in Biology and Psychology and minored in math (just for fun). I attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine and I loved the program and people in the Peds Residency so much I wanted to stay for my residency!

In my free time, I love spending time with my family and friends and my fiancé, Dave. I am a die-hard Orioles and Ravens fan and also enjoy shopping, spending time outside, and doing Zumba! I also enjoy spending time with my church family and singing in our worship team.

Krista Tookhan, M.D.Krista Tookhan, M.D.
Medical School: State University of New York Upstate Medical University

I was born and raised in Nassau, Bahamas; and despite many people questioning me I have yet to figure out why I left. I went to undergrad at The University of Miami (Go Canes!) and medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University. I am a mother to two handsome boys (Kaden and Cameron) and wife to one handsome man (Reagan). In my spare time (yeah right) I enjoy traveling, reading and spending time with my family.
